Performing a dumbbell row is a great exercise for targeting your back muscles, particularly your lats and rhomboids. Building a big, strong back helps with other movements from your bench to your squat.
Here are the steps to perform a dumbbell row:
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a dumbbell in one hand with your palm facing your body. Keep your back straight and your core engaged.
- Place your other hand on a bench or other stable object in front of you for support.
- Bend your knees slightly and hinge forward at your hips, keeping your back straight and your head in a neutral position.
- Pull the dumbbell up towards your chest by bending your elbow and squeezing your shoulder blade towards your spine.
- Pause at the top of the movement, then slowly lower the dumbbell back down to the starting position.
- Repeat for the desired number of reps, then switch sides and repeat.
